Nine months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Metro 9 project, which will connect Dahisar to Bhayandar, the construction work for the same has finally started. 

On Sunday, the agencies who have been given the contract to construct Metro 9,  carried out soil tests at various places along with road between Kashimira and Bhayandar.

Earlier, the Maharashtra cabinet had approved a proposal for two new metro lines in Mumbai including Metro 5 and Metro 9 which will run between Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and Dahisar-Mira Road-Bhayandar, respectively.

Mumbai Metro 9 line will be a 10.41 km-long elevated corridor which will have nine stations on the entire route. Both the metro lines were approved keeping in mind the cost worth ₹5,524 crore. 

The metro projects are being executed under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and are expected to take more than three years to complete. The metro work across the city has started ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

Earlier in December last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone regarding Metro-5 and Metro-9 routes during his visit.
