A 39-year-old man died after a portion of the ceiling of his house collapsed and fell on him. The incident took place in Bhayander town near Mumbai on Monday, June 14.
The deceased identified as Komi Britto was in his flat, on the first floor of Rose Villa Apartment in Bakul Street, Bhayander (West). The ceiling portions fell on him and he sustained serious head injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The structure was a dilapidated one. The fire brigade of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported.
Reportedly, this was the third incident of slab portions of old and dilapidated buildings collapsing in the Mira-Bhayander region in less than a month. In the earlier two incidents, there were no injuries or causalities.

On May 18, the first-floor slab of a building in Mahesh Nagar, Bhayander (West) came crashing down on the ground floor. No one was injured in the incident.
On June 10, the fourth-floor slab of the Sai Palace building in Bhayander (East) collapsed. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Both the buildings have been taken up for demolition.
Besides, in the last week, two buildings have collapsed after heavy rains that lashed Mumbai. One of the major incidents took place on June 9, where at least 11 people, including eight kids, were killed and seven others were injured as a residential structure was collapsed.
