Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has issued a notice to a building in South Mumbai’s Kalbadevi area as it’s going to be in line with Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 line.

Jain Bhavan, the building on the receiving end, could be the latest victim of “Mumbai is upgrading,” and this has caused a bit of stir among the people working in that building. They’ve demanded some explanation from MMRC.

This four-storey building is owned by MHADA and 26 businessmen have shops in this commercial building. Since the building is old, MHADA officials inspected the building and gave instructions to the building on February 9, 2017, to repair the building. The occupants along with MHADA decided to chip in and get the building fixed.

In the month of May, MMRC blocked the building for the Metro-3 project during the ongoing repair work. On one hand, members of the building spent INR 12 lakh whereas MHADA spent INR 5 lakh for repair work. The ongoing repair work was then halted.

Our building wasn’t part of the plan earlier. If the building was to be a part of the Metro-3 construction, why weren’t we notified earlier? MMRC need to give us an explanation as to when did they survey our building. If our building is really an obstacle for Metro 3, we will cooperate with them. However, we have written a letter to the Chief Minister asking to look into it,” Harichand Jain, Jain Bhavan building owner.
