Mumbaikars might have to face water cuts next summer as the level of seven lakes that supply potable water to Mumbai is available at nearly 77 per cent as compared to 93 per cent last year, on the corresponding day. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is likely to take a call on executing water cuts in the city considering the current level of water.

In 2016 too, lake levels were at 90 per cent at this time last year. A fortnight ago, civic officials suggested rationing water supply after Diwali to ensure that the stock lasts up to next monsoon.
