Dabbawala who bring tiffin for school students are being restricted to enter convent schools citing threat to security of the schools. Mumbai Dabbawala Association has requested Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar to ask them to withdraw this decision taken by some school administrations.
Most of the private English medium school administrations in South Mumbai have banned Dabbawalas from entering the school. The Mumbai Dabbawala Association has mentioned in a letter to the Chief Minister that the ban has been imposed due to security reasons. However, the reason given regarding security is false and the association's president Subhash Talekar has alleged that the school administration and the school canteen driver are in collusion. The association has alleged that the administration took this decision in connivance only to boost the business of the canteen.
Schools will start again in the second week of June. Hundreds of coaches also deliver the coaches of school children. Due to this decision of the school administration, the employment of dabbawalas has been lost or reduced. Therefore, if a student wants to eat tiffin from home, such a student must receive the tiffin through a dabbawala. For this, the organisation has requested the Chief Minister and School Education Minister that they should be forced to withdraw this decision taken by the school administration.
