The Mumbai fire brigade has decided to develop a mobile application which twill have them keep a check on the safety compliance of buildings in the city. They can also upload fire audit reports. Once the app is ready, all buildings will have to mandatorily submit their six-monthly fire audit reports on the app.

A senior official said that the data of all buildings would be available on this app. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started the trial of the app in three administrative wards. For data compilation, every building in Mumbai will be given a unique identification number. The compliant buildings will face disconnection of electricity and water supplies, said officials.

This development came after a massive fire broke out in sixty-storey One Avighna Park at Currey Road last week, where a 30-year-old man died.

According to the reports, to check fire-safety compliance the fire brigade has inspected 1,526 buildings which includes 52 high-rises, in the last 20 months. Out of these, 327 buildings have received a notice for non-compliance of norms, while 3 buildings have been prosecuted for not fixing fire safety mechanisms. Earlier it was reported that the Mumbai fire brigade was gearing up to receive 24 firefighting bikes in the city.
