On Saturday, June 6, Mumbai residents complained of a "gas leak". Even BMC acknowledged receiving complaints pertaining to this matter. The BMC mentioned that they have received multiple complaints from the citizens residing in Chembur, Ghatkopar, Kankumarg, Vikhroli and Powai.
However, it is being assumed that there has been a gas leak in a factory in Govandi. As a consequence, the smell spread in many areas of Mumbai. However, when an investigation was done, no gas leak was found in the factory of Govandi. At the moment, the origin of the smell of gas is being investigated. Furthermore, the Mumbai Fire Brigade has asked citizens not to panic.
According to Mumbai Fire Brigade Chief Prabhat Rahangadale "The fire brigade was informed of the possibility of gas leaking at a Govandi company but when it was investigated it was found that there was no leakage at Govandi's factory, followed by Ghatkopar's Pant. An investigation was also done in the city but no leakage was found there, at present the situation is under control and there is no problem of panic of the people, so far there is no news of any kind of incident."
The BMC had said earlier reassured that the situation was under control and that 17 fire appliances are on field equipped with public announcement system after receiving complaints of suspected gas leak from residents from several parts of Mumbai. The civic body further urged the residents to remain calm as it does not seem that there is any pertinent danger at the moment. In a series of tweets, the civic body tried to assure the people of Mumbai who managed to narrowly escape a cyclonic storm a week back all the while dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
Situation is under control. All necessary resources have been mobilised. Origin of the smell is being investigated.
