Supreme Court has ordered against unauthorized firework stalls in residential areas.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday ordered the state government to ban the fireworks sale in residential areas completely and to cancel licenses of the people who have set up shop in such areas.

Chief Justice Manjula Chellur has passed the judgment and asked the government to follow the same.

The court has clarified that the licenses issued for sale of crackers should be brought down to 50 per cent and new licenses should not be granted.

The Malad Fire Work Welfare Association requested the court to permit them to restart fireworks stalls in the Malad area many years ago but the court has denied their request.
