After junior college teachers were left devoid of their demands, the Mumbai Junior College Teachers Union (MJCTU) decided to organise a 'Jail Bharo movement' on January 18, 2019. The protest has been held in regard to pending approvals, delay in salaries, and temporary appointment of some of the crucial positions of the education department.

The teachers have demanded that the mentioned issues must be resolved as soon as possible. They are also willing to demand the appointment of deputy director for the local area along with the removal of current Education Minister, Vinod Tawde. They have demanded his ouster as he has been passive towards hearing the teachers' demands.

In March 2018, the Teachers' Association had boycotted the paper evaluation procedure and had asked the Education Department to respond to their demands. However, the teachers had withdrawn the strike after the state government paid heed to their demands and promised to fulfill them.
