Mumbai’s most beloved Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal has been fined by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC's F South ward has imposed a fine of INR 72,000 on the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal for creating potholes on the roads during the construction of pandals for the festival. As per the BMC policy, during the permission phase, the BMC included a condition that no Ganesh Mandal will be allowed to create potholes on the roads. A fine of INR 2,000 will be charged per pothole.

The BMC identified 36 potholes created by Lalbaug division and requested to pay the fine related to them. The board members paid the fine. This year, following the order of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the BMC waived off all permission fees for Ganesh Mandals. However, some conditions were retained, including the restriction that the height of the pavilion must not exceed 30 feet.

If the height of the mandal's pavilion exceeded 25 feet, they were required to submit a certificate of structural stability from an architect. The BMC also warned Ganesh mandals not to dig potholes on the roads, which will result in a fine of INR 2,000 per pothole.
