The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Maharashtra Senior Resident Doctors' Association (MSRDA) have announced a one-day strike on September 18 in protest against the state government's decision to allow homeopathy doctors who have completed the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) to practice allopathy.
In this context, the Central MARD (Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors), the organisation representing resident doctors in the state, staged a protest on Tuesday by wearing black ribbons in all government hospitals across the state to express their opposition to the government's decision.
Various allopathic doctors' associations in the state have become aggressive against the government's decision. Associations like IMA and MSRDA have warned of a state-wide strike on September 18, while other organisations have strongly opposed the decision. In this regard, on Monday, the office bearers of Central MARD and BMC MARD met with the Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, the Commissioner of Medical Education, and the Director of the Directorate of Medical Education. During the meeting, they demanded the cancellation of the registration of homeopathic practitioners who have completed the CCMP course from the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).
Following this meeting, BMC MARD, Central MARD and ASMI, an organisation of inter-resident medical students, jointly protested this decision by wearing black ribbons on September 16. Accordingly, doctors from Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Nagar, Gondia, BJMC, KEM, Nair, Cooper and Sion hospitals in Pune wore black ribbons to work.

Doctors ensured that this protest would not disrupt medical services, and that all healthcare services would continue as usual. MARD clarified that this protest was called to raise awareness against the MMC's unethical decision and to protect the health of the citizens of Maharashtra.
