Due to the complex network of railways, human errors sometimes lead to train accidents. As a result, the safety of passengers is compromised. 'Audio alert units' are being installed in the motorman's compartment in local trains. The motorman can stop the local as soon as he knows that the next train has a red signal. At present this system has been implemented in 90 local trains out of total 151 in Mumbai division. In the remaining 61 local trains, 'Audio Alert Units' will be installed by March 2024.

After the motorman crosses the 'yellow' signal, an audio alert is given to the motorman saying 'next signal is red, be careful'. This early warning audio system will help prevent accidents on railway tracks. It will also strengthen the safety of passengers, said a senior official of Central Railway. Installation of 'Audio Alert Units' system in local trains costs about INR 18,000. So far INR 16.20 lakh have been spent for this system.
