On Saturday, January 16, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to make the Right to Information Act 2005 online. By doing this online, you will no longer have to go to the municipal offices to apply for RTI or get written answers. The corporation will soon launch this service online. Therefore, this information will be available at home.

According to the act, there is a law to provide relevant information within one month, but often the information is not received within the given time frame. So sometimes there are technical hurdles in getting information, sometimes there are ways to hide information. In this, the applicant has to endure the hassle and undue hassle of government office.

Citizens and right to information activists have been calling for the system to be made available online in a timely manner. With this Maharashtra becomes the first state to make RTI online. Sagar Ugale, an RTI activist, had sought information about when the Mumbai Municipal Corporation will launch an online service. In the reply given by the civic body, it stated that the Department of Information and Technology has completed the process of starting the online process.
