The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally announced a helpline number for complaints related to desilting of drains.

To facilitate lodging complaints for drain silt removal, the citizens can use Whatsapp chatbot on the given number - 9324500600. It is also being ensured that all complaints are addressed before monsoon.

This helpline has been started as per the instructions of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. After inspecting the silt removal work in the city last month, he had directed the municipality to start a helpline for citizens to complain if they find unsanitary drains in the area.

It has been made accessible for Mumbaikars from June 1.

How to register complain?

Citizens have to give the exact location, department, date and time while filing the complaint. Also if they upload the photo with GPS location it will be easier for BMC to track complainant's exact location. The complainant will get a unique number. Complainant will be notified with photo as confirmation after resolution of complaint.

However, this is not the first time that the municipality has launched a helpline for registering complaints. Apart from helpline number 1916, BMC also has MCGM 24*7 app, MCGM website and a WhatsApp chatbot. The municipality also had a pothole-tracking app in 2019.
