According to the latest reports, over the last few days, Mumbai Police has commenced cracking down on "anti-social elements", especially those that have records of inciting communal tensions earlier. The police have stated in accounts that notices warning towards externment, detention, and fine have been declared to people under many sections of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). 

Based on narratives, an officer remarked that the number of notices given will increase since police stations have been told to curate a list of such persons in their concerned jurisdictions. 

It has been reported that on Wednesday, April 20, Mumbai police's top brass conducted a meeting wherein problems in regards to the utilization of loudspeakers at religious locations were spoken about. 

These occurrences come in the backdrop of the MNS chief Raj Thackeray giving an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government asking that loudspeakers be removed from mosques by May 3

An officer was quoted in reports elaborating on how in accordance with the police records there are nearly 996 mosques in Mumbai. These the officer said have legal permission. The officer cautioned that even if a minor incident concerning communal tensions is seen, they will take stringent action. 

In accordance with the loudspeakers guidelines issued by the Mumbai Police highlighted that in accordance with Supreme Court’s noise pollution directives, loudspeakers and honking are banned between 10 pm to 6 am.

Moreover, loudspeakers will not be allowed in religious places that have been built illegally. Similarly, loudspeakers will not be allowed in silent zones.

Additionally, action will be taken against illegal loudspeakers and violators of the rules with all the existing norms including sections 33w and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, under which loudspeakers violating the rules will be confiscated and also fines will be imposed.
