On Tuesday, March 22, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjay Pandey took to Twitter to propose the idea of "No Parking No Car", adding that he will be taking the same up with car companies.

According to reports, the idea proposes that new cars should not be registered until they have adequate parking slots. Pandey highlighted that nearly 600 new cars are added to Mumbai's roads every day. This combined with many app cabs leads to constrained road space.

The police chief's tweet read, "Imagine autos/taxi require to show a parking place before they buy. Private cars nothing asked. Loading Mumbai roads with 600 plus daily new cars. Think about it. #NoParkingNoCar let us know will take up with car companies".

Pandey is looking to make Mumbai's roads more drivable, with fewer parking issues. This decision garnered mix responses from the public. While one Twitter user recommended that more rented parking spaces be developed in clusters since, the chief's idea could negatively impact the economy. Another stated that the idea is well said and should be a priority with improved public transport.

In other developments, recently, an odd-even parking scheme was implemented on certain roads in Khar and Bandra. Following its success, the same initiative is slated to be conducted in certain eastern and central suburbs to ease the vehicular congestion on roads.
