Mumbai is all set for the grand Ganpati Visarjan as Anant Chaturdashi fast approaches on Saturday, September 6. This year, the city will witness one of the largest security operations in recent years. Mumbai police will deploy around 25,000 to ensure that the immersion of Ganesh idols takes place safely and smoothly.
Nearly 6,500 public Ganpati idols and 1.75 lakh family idols will be immersed in 65 natural water bodies and 205 specially constructed artificial ponds across Mumbai. As per reports, cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence, will assist in monitoring crowds and maintaining order.
The following measures will be in place to manage the large gatherings:
10,000 CCTV cameras will be installed across the city. Additional cameras will be placed along procession routes of popular mandals and at major immersion sites.
AI technology will help the police with real-time surveillance and crowd control.
Special security measures are in place for women devotees. Plainclothes policewomen will assist Nirbhaya Squads in street patrols.
Every police station will have beat marshals and mobile patrol vans to keep a close watch and make sure of safety
Four companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and fourteen State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) companies will also be deployed.
Special units such as Quick Response Teams, CCTV vans, Bomb Detection, Riot Control teams, Delta Force, Combat teams, Anti-Drone Squad, and Disposal Squads will be stationed at strategic locations across the city.
The Bandobast plan includes deployment of the following officers:
12 Additional Commissioners of Police
40 deputy commissioners
61 assistant commissioners
3,000 police officers
3,000 traffic police officers
454 Railway Police officers
18,000 constables
The Government Railway Police (GRP) will deploy officers at busy stations such as Dadar, Churchgate, and Wadala, along with level crossings. Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, and Powai are some of the most popular immersion spots and will see high police deployment.
