Mumbai Police directs private establishments to install CCTV cameras for security

Reports state that the directives were issued to ensure the CCTV footage is used by the police during investigations as well as in controlling and solving crime across the city.

The Mumbai Police Commissionerate recently instructed the concerned teams to install CCTV cameras at important and sensitive places in the city. However, some private establishments have not yet implemented the directive and urgent orders have been issued in this regard.

As per reports, the Police Commissionerate had asked private establishment to install CCTV cameras for security purposes, within the jurisdiction, and appealed that the same had to be implemented immediately. Information regarding the same was given by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), S.Chaitanya, who added that the motive behind the decision was to make sure the CCTV footage captured is of use in police investigations which will further help in control and solving crime across Mumbai

According to the reports shared by the department, some private establishments are still using CCTV, but many have not mounted the camera. On the other hand, several establishments have not followed the instructions of installing the cameras yet. These establishments should install cameras that will record their area up to 50 meters and also ensure the cameras are working and in good condition. Moreover, officials have asked them to buy cameras where the filming is of good quality and the device should have the capability to have at least 15 days of recording. 

If the police demands the footage, these establishments should be able to support the department in managing the crime, and in case of any suspicious activity, these establishments can report them to the nearest police station.

  • Jewellery Shops
  • Hotels
  • Guest Houses
  • Restaurants
  • Bars, pubs and clubs
  • Liquor shops
  • Residential Complexes
  • Office Buildings
  • New and Under Construction Residential Complexes and offices
  • Petrol pumps
  • Shopping malls and complexes
  • Super markets
  • Gyms
  • Playgrounds
  • Cinema And complexes
  • Educational complexes
  • Places of worship
  • Hospitals
  • Institutions / organizations appointed for the protection and maintenance of statues, etc.
