On Friday, July 16, the city of Mumbai woke up to cloudy skies as incessant downpour ravaged the night, leaving several areas of the city waterlogged.

According to reports, traffic has been severely affected in places, with buses getting diverted on multiple routes. Moreover, the Mumbai locals have been running late as well due to stagnant water on the railway tracks on the harbour and slow lines. Meanwhile, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall is likely to continue across parts of the city and its suburbs for the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the continual rainfall has left Mumbai’s Gandhi Market area completely waterlogged by Friday morning, Moreover, visuals from the Eastern Express Highway also showed the overnight heavy rains lashing parts of the city. Furthermore, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses have also been diverted in at least 10 routes across Mumbai, including Sion Road, Gandhi Market, Hindmata Cinema, and Wadala Bridge.

Earlier, the IMD had issued an orange alert for Mumbai and the neighbouring district of Thane for Wednesday, July 15, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. In addition, a red alert was issued for Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Satara districts.
