Many citizens visit Byculla Zoo in Mumbai during public holidays. Therefore, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo will remain open on Wednesday, November 15 this year. Instead, the zoo will now remain closed on Thursday, November 16.

This decision has been taken as Bhai Dooj will be celebrated tomorrow, i.e on Wednesday, November 15, which is a public holiday in the city and state. Owing to this, large crowd is expected to visit on this day.

It is pertinent to note that Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo in the eastern part of Byculla remains closed every Wednesday for weekly holiday. However, according to a resolution passed by the civic body, if a public holiday falls on Wednesdays, the parks and zoos will be kept open for the public on that day. As per the same resolution, it will be closed on the next day to compensate the holidays to the staff. Apart from this, it happens to be Bhai Dooj on Wednesday; hence, this decision has been taken.
