After a week of high temperatures, Mumbaikars witnessed cooler weather over the weekend getting a a sigh a relief. The city experienced a significant drop in temperature, with the mercury dipping below 20 degrees Celsius on Monday morning, March 4.

The city's minimum temperature fell below 20 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest March temperature in the past four years. The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Santacruz observatory reported Monday's lowest temperature at 17.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the average.

The city also recorded the lowest nighttime temperature in March since 2020, when the temperature fell to 16.6 degrees Celsius. Contrastingly, the previous week saw high day and night temperatures. The temperature reached a scorching 37.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, March 1. The temperature was at the ballpark of 30 degrees on March 2 and 28.8 degrees on March 3.

According to reports, the sudden drop in temperature is due to the northerly and westerly winds blowing across Mumbai for the last 48 hours. Hailstorms in other regions of the nation and snowfall in northern India have contributed to the decrease in Mumbai's average temperature.

The weather forecast predicts that the maximum temperature will hover between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius over the next few days. Whereas, the minimum temperature will likely stay between 18 and 19 degrees over the next few days.

At the same time, IMD's Colaba observatory recorded a low temperature of 19 degrees on Sunday late night, March 3. This is three degrees below average.

The city's weather saw several fluctuations last week, with the highest recorded March temperature reaching 37 degrees Celsius for two days. The Colaba observatory also recorded 3mm of rain on March 1, providing the city with brief bursts of heavy rain.

When it comes to the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI), it was rated satisfactory at 55, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) bulletin.
