Mumbai Sees Nearly 4% Drop In COVID-19 Cases in 24 Hours

In a slight good tidings, Mumbai on January 9 reported 19,474 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is nearly 4 per cent lower than a day earlier, January 8, which recorded 20,318 cases.

In a slight good tidings, Mumbai on January 9 reported 19,474 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is nearly 4 per cent lower than a day earlier, January 8, which recorded 20,318 cases.

Meanwhile, according to the data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city logged seven more deaths due to coronavirus. Whereas, a total of 1,240 patients were hospitalised today. Of the total cases, 82 per cent were asymptomatic. 

Besides, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visits Gateway of India amid lockdown-like restrictions. "Strict restrictions, SOPs can be brought in and action will be taken against those not abiding by them. I request people to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, and not feel scared," she says.

Moreover, earlier in the day, the Maharashtra government revised its COVID-19 curbs, in accordance with the notification released on Saturday, January 8, there is a prohibition of movement in groups of five or more from 5 am to 11 pm which will be effective from January 10 midnight.

Now beauty salons have been grouped with hair cutting salons and are permitted to operate with 50 per cent capacity. Moreover, gyms are also permitted to function with 50 per cent capacity. Only those individuals who are fully vaccinated are allowed to utilize these services, stated reports.

Apart from this, movement isn't permitted in public from 11 pm to 5 am except for essential services. Schools and colleges will also be closed till February 15.
