In a downhearted news, a 36-year-old jawan of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) shot himself with his service rifle this morning, January 25, reports stated.

The incident took place at around 9:50 am at a civic school. The jawan identified as Pushkar Shinde, was rushed to JJ Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said Mumbai police officials.

Moreover, this incident comes just a day ahead of the Republic Day, which is celebrated on January 26 every year.

Shinde, who belongs to SRPF Group No 2 in Pune, was posted at the Mantralaya main gate since January 6 on security duty.

Officials after preliminary inquiry found out that the jawan returned to the BMC school, where he was posted as sentry, after finishing his duty.

When he was alone inside a room in the school, Shinde shot himself in the neck using his SLR rifle. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but couldn’t be saved. The cause behind Shinde turning the gun on himself is not known yet.
