Mumbai: These 'six' renowned hotels to remain close; FDA inspects 70 hotels in 15 days

Few days ago, a man found a dead rat in the food at the hotel 'Papa Pancho Da Dhaba' in Pali. Taking cognizance of this matter, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has started taking action against the hotels in the city. In the last 15 days, the FDA has taken action against 70 hotels. Six reputed hotels have been directed to remain closed till they comply with the norms.

A case has been registered at the Bandra Police Station after a dead rat was found in the food at 'Papa Pancho Da Dhaba' and taking note of it, the FDA has started inspection of all small and big hotels in the city. There are generally more than 10 thousand vegetarian and non-vegetarian hotels in Mumbai. Food preparation method, kitchen, cleaning, hygiene of employees, drinking water in these hotels are being inspected by FDA.

The action will intensify
After 'Papa Pancho Da Dhaba' in Bandra, famous hotels like 'Bademian' and 'Mumbai Darbar' have been found to have poor quality arrangements, unsanitary kitchens and this action against such hotels will be intensified. Food samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing, and some hotels have been fined. Some hotels have been directed to remain closed until they rectify the lapses, said FDA's Joint Commissioner (Food), Shailesh Adhaav. 


Action on 'Bademian'
On September 13, the FDA administration took action against all the three establishments of Bademian Hotel in Colaba. All three establishments were found not to have a valid food licence during the inspection. At the same time, 10 food samples of raw and prepared food items have been taken for analysis due to errors found in the inspection. It has also been directed to close the food business until the food licence is obtained and the errors found during the inspection are rectified.
