MegaLab, the world’s largest genetic testing lab, built by the IIT alumni council has announced that an incubator worth ₹500 crores is to come up in order to intensify the offensive against the coronavirus in the Mumbai University campus.
This incubator is touted to be the world’s first and largest bio-molecule focused incubator which will take up 2.5 million sq. ft. space at the Kalina campus, in Mumbai University.
With the coronavirus outbreak hitting the country, several new technologies have come into being to fight off the contagious disease. IIT Bombay pass-outs had earlier launched contactless thermal scanning kiosks. These kiosks have specifications such as temperature checks, face mask detection, auto hand-sanitization, and attendance/access management. These are also said to be capable of screening blood oxygen, pulse, and respiration rate in addition to temperature. Even though the kiosks are similar to the temperature gun, the basic difference lies in the fact that a temperature gun requires the physical presence of a security guard or an individual to note down people’s temperature. The kiosks, on the other hand, require no human observation. With the importance of social distancing in this pandemic, these kiosks, therefore, could prove to be useful. This artificial intelligence-enabled Arvi scanners are hence the need of the hour and can be used at various public places like malls, banks, airports, schools and hospitals.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra, On July 17, recorded 8,308 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease, which took the overall tally of confirmed cases to 2,92,589, according to the state health department.
