On Saturday, south Mumbai’s famous and well known Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles were added to the global list of heritage sites at the 42nd session of the Unesco World Heritage Committee, currently underway in Manama, Bahrain.

The list includes places such as Mumbai University, High Court, CSTM headquarters and Maharashtra Police headquarters.

A while ago, UNESCO tweeted the same.

In 2012, the state government had first submitted its formal nomination proposal for the 'Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai' but it was sided out by other major Indian landmarks.

With this, Mumbai gets its third such site — the Elephanta Caves and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus are also on the Unesco list. Along with this, Maharashtra has a total of five sites, including the Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad.

India is ranked 7th on the list of countries with the highest number of heritage sites.
