Mumbaikars witness coolest morning of the season; Temp dips to 17 degrees

Mumbai city have been witnessing gradual dip in the temperatures since earlier this week. As per IMD’s seven-day forecast for Mumbai, the minimum night temperature over the next week is expected to fall to about 17 degrees Celsius by December 26.

Mumbai city have been witnessing gradual dip in the temperatures since earlier this week. Today, December 23, Mumbaikars woke up to the coolest morning of the season so far.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruz observatory reported a minimum temperature of 17.9 degree Celsius as on Thursday morning, December 23, at 8:30 am, while IMD Colaba recorded minimum temperature at 19.4 degrees Celsius. However, the maximum temperature recorded was 30.2 and 29 degrees Celsius.

Officials had earlier said that there will be a constant dip in the temperatures till at least December 31.

For the last two days, IMD recorded a minimum temperature at 18.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, December 21, and Wednesday, December 22. Meanwhile, as per IMD’s seven-day forecast for Mumbai, the minimum night temperature over the next week is expected to fall to about 17 degrees Celsius by December 26.

The second lowest minimum temperature recorded in the city this season was at 18.9 degrees Celsius on December 14. 

Moreover, Mumbai's lowest minimum temperature recorded in December last year was 15 degrees Celsius. The all-time lowest minimum temperature recorded was off 10.6 degrees Celsius in December 1949.

Besides, the city’s air quality index (AQI) remained in the ‘poor’ category on Thursday morning at 276 (same as the day prior), as per SAFAR’s network of monitoring stations. Officials cautioned that pollution levels will spike again as temperatures fall.
