In view of the rapidly declining water levels in reservoirs supplying the CIDCO region and the possibility of delayed monsoon conditions due to El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) effects, CIDCO has announced a 10% water cut across its water supply jurisdiction from Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure that available water reserves last until reservoirs receive adequate inflow during the upcoming monsoon season.
CIDCO receives water from Hetawane Dam, Morbe Dam, Barvi Dam operated by MIDC, and the Patalganga source of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). Officials stated that soaring summer temperatures have increased evaporation losses, while usable water stock in the reservoirs continues to decline steadily.
Considering forecasts indicating a possible delay in the onset of monsoon, the administration said controlled and judicious use of water has become essential. CIDCO officials are continuously monitoring reservoir levels, daily water availability and local distribution patterns to manage supply efficiently.
The water cut will remain in force until satisfactory rainfall replenishes the catchment areas of Hetawane, Morbe and other connected water sources.
Similar water reduction measures have also been implemented by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in their respective jurisdictions.
Revised Weekly Water Shutdown Schedule
Under the revised schedule effective from May 28, water supply will remain suspended once a week in different nodes and sectors:
Monday: Kharghar and New Panvel (East)
Tuesday: New Panvel (West) and Ulwe sectors 2, 3, 5, 6, 19, 19A, 20, 21 and 23, along with Gavhan and Morave villages
Wednesday: Kalamboli and Navade
Thursday: Karanjade
Friday: Taloja, Kamothe, Kalundre and Ulwe sectors 8, 8A, 9, 10B, 15, 16, 16A, 17, 18 and 24, along with Kopar, Shivaji Nagar, Nhava, Sheva and Bamandongri
Sunday: Ulwe sectors 25 and 25A, and Dronagiri
CIDCO has cautioned that after water supply resumes in affected areas, residents may experience low water pressure for some time.
The administration has appealed to citizens, housing societies, commercial establishments and industries to use water responsibly. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary use of potable water, vehicle washing, overflow of storage tanks and to immediately repair any leakages noticed in buildings or surrounding areas.
CIDCO has sought public cooperation to ensure sustainable management of available water resources and maintain smooth water supply operations during the summer period.
