The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is a water-rich municipality in Maharashtra. However, water supply planning has been implemented as a precaution. This year in Navi Mumbai due to low rainfall in the Morbe Dam area, the Morbe Dam was not fully filled. Day by day the consumption of water in Navi Mumbai city is increasing and as the dam is not fully filled, there is less stock left in the dam and only 33.38 percent of the water stock is left and only enough water is available in the Morbe dam to supply water to the city till August 3.

In order to supply water to the citizens in the city, a water quota is approved for the entire society according to the number of houses and citizens in the city through the municipality and taps are connected accordingly.

However, it has been noticed that the society in the city is using water more than the sanctioned water quota and the municipality has sent notices to 336 such societies in the city, reported Loksatta. These societies have warned of punitive action if they do not control water consumption. The societies using surplus water in the city include some societies in all the eight divisions.
