After the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted rains in the city for the next 24 hours on Friday, July 16, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed teams to tackle waterlogging.

According to reports, NDRF has rushed three teams from Pune to Mumbai as a precautionary measure to tackle waterlogging in several parts of the city, which has been receiving heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the city’s routine life was affected as local trains on few lines were running late and BEST buses on certain routes were diverted due to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Earlier in the day, the IMD issued an Orange alert for Mumbai and predicted rains in the city for the next few days.

Heavy waterlogging was observed near Parel Bridge, Hindmata, Sion, Chembur and Wadala Bridge. Eastern Expressway flooded affecting commuters between Central and South Mumbai.

Other areas in Maharashtra have also been affected by the downpour. Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban, neighbouring districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad which comprise the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have been receiving heavy rainfall and more rainfall is expected.
