Mumbai: Nearly 40 vehicles gutted as massive fire breaks out in Kurla

While the cause of the fire is still ascertained, the local police and the fire department are investigating the matter. Moreover, the statements of residents are being registered.

After a massive fire broke out in the open space in front of C Wing at Dhamma Seva Housing Society, East Point Building, Jagruti Nagar, Kurla (East) nearly 30 to 35 motorcycles and 8 to 10 bicycles were gutted, reports stated.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday, October 11, at 3.15 am. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

An official stated that the fire damaged 30 to 35 motorcycles and 8 to 10 bicycles parked in the area. Moreover, clothes kept for drying in the window of the 8th floor of the building as well as plastic nets installed to prevent pigeons from entering the room caught fire. 

The cause of the fire is not yet ascertained. 

The officials stated that the motorcycles reportedly caught fire leading it into the huge flames leapt as high as the eighth floor of the building. Meanwhile, residents of the building said they suspected that someone either deliberately set the fire or smoked a cigarette and carelessly threw the unextinguished butt from the top of the building.

Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and succeeded in dousing the fire after much effort.

Moreover, on Tuesday, nearly 28 people were hospitalized post a gas leakage that was reported at a chemical factory at the MIDC area in Ambernath, reports stated. The people complained of trouble breathing.
