In light of the rising coronavirus and the Omicron variant cases in Maharashtra, state Chief Minisiter Uddhav Thackeray conducted a meeting with the COVID-19 Task Force on Thursday, December 23 at 10 pm via video conferencing, stated the Public Relations Room of Chief Minister's Secretariat, reported news agency ANI. 

In light of this, the Maharashtra government is anticipated to issue a detailed guideline on Friday, December 24 to avoid crowding in wedding ceremonies, hotels and restaurants during Christmas and New Year celebrations. 

Recently, the state has been reported a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases, with union government data depicting that Maharashtra alongside Delhi is amongst the top two regions in India with the foremost number of Omicron cases.

With the approaching festive season of Christmas and New Year's, the Maharashtra government on Thursday released certain guidelines to ensure the celebrations happen on a minimalistic level. 

These include that churches will be open to only 50 per cent of the total capacity. Apart from this, smaller number of singers are to be there in church choirs. It is compulsory to avoid crowding at churches, near Christmas trees and displays. There is also a prohibition to have any stalls outside churches. The authorities have asked that one must refrain from organizing programs and rallies that will result in crowds. The utilization of firecrackers has been disallowed.
