On Tuesday, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) claims to have inoculated 100% of the city’s eligible citizens with the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccines based on the target it received from the Maharashtra government, reported the Times of India. With this feat, it has become the first city in MMR to have covered 100% of those eligible with the first jab.
More than 52% of the eligible population in Navi Mumbai have attained their second dose, but taking into account the floating population, the authority has urged all, who haven’t been vaccinated to visit the civic authority’s vaccination centres at no cost.
The account went on to state that Mumbai has a target of inoculating 92.3 lakh recipients of which 89.3 lakh have received the first jab which is 97% of the target given. In addition to this, 56% of those eligible have been fully inoculated.
The report quoted, NMMC chief Abhijit Bangar who elaborated on how the target was to inoculate 11.07 lakh eligible citizens and they attained it. Their focus, therefore, will now be on the second jab and have shown gratitude to the locals for their cooperation during the same.
Based on the report, Maharashtra has a target of inoculating 9.14cr and has attained 70% of the first jab, with 31% of those eligible being completely vaccinated. With the reduction in the second wave and the beginning of the festive and harvesting season, the inoculation drive is at a slower pace than usual.
