Chairman and Managing Director of MAHAGENCO, Sanjay Khandare, has stated that there is now no danger of load shedding as the coal crisis has abated in Maharashtra while talking to The Indian Express. He further said that Maharashtra is getting more coal in October compared to the previous month. The coal crisis took place because there was an increase in demand for local coal after the prices of imported coal increased, causing a shortage in supply.

The situation in the state has improved since the past week, and it is not very serious now. It was serious in September and during the first week of October; however, the scenario was handled in a good way, he added. The state is receiving 22 to 24 rakes of coal now, compared to September when it received 17 to 18 rakes. Maharashtra is getting 1.1 lakh metric tonnes of coal, while in September, it got 70,000 metric tonnes of coal, he stated.

Khandare also said that the demand for coal in Maharashtra increased due to an increase in demand for power last month. He also assured that there will be no load shedding, and even during the worst times, there was no load shedding. Recently, Nitin Raut had advised the Maharashtra citizens to use electricity sparingly, while the distribution companies were buying power at higher costs from private companies.
