The Bombay High Court (HC) on Wednesday, July 14, has given a last chance to the Union government seeking its affidavit regarding vaccination fraud cases.

According to reports, fake vaccines were injected in over 2,000 individuals across Mumbai. On June 24, the Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that nearly 2,053 people were administered fake vaccines in at least nine places across Mumbai.

On Tuesday, July 13, the court was hearing a plea filed by advocate and activist Siddharth Chandrashekhar highlighting the instances of vaccine fraud in the city. A Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni, said that there shall be no further adjournments.

Earlier, the bench had instructed BMC to find the effect of this "fake vaccine" on people.

So far, at least five FIRs have been lodged by the police in all these nine incidents against persons responsible for administering fake vaccines. Last month, one of the main accused in the 'fake' vaccination drive, Rajesh Pandey, was arrested by Mumbai police.

The incidents came to light after the scam came at Kandivali-based society Hiranandani Heritage was reported. With Pandey's arrest, the total number of accused arrested reached 12.
