The division bench of Bombay High Court (HC) has asked Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to check if the victims of the vaccine scam racket have developed antibodies.

The court was hearing a plea filed by advocate and activist Siddharth Chandrashekhar regarding the problems faced by citizens in getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni of the Bombay High Court asked the BMC to examine the health of those, who have been administered the unauthorised vaccines in Mumbai.

"Our anxiety is, what happens to these people? They should be checked for antigens. Find out what is the effect of this fake vaccine on people," the bench said.

Moreover, the Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that more than 2,000 people have been vaccinated in illegal vaccination camps organised by fraudsters last week in Mumbai.

Responding to this, the court directed the state and BMC to file separate affidavits enumerating how they plan to deal with these victims of unauthorised vaccination camps in Mumbai and its steps to avoid such incidents in future.

The court has granted five days to the authorities to come up with a plan to avoid such scams in future.

During the last hearing, the court expressed shock at the type of fraud committed on people, victims of fake vaccination camps across the western suburbs of Mumbai.

For those unaware, the scam came to light after residents of Mumbai’s Kandivali society claimed that they were given fake vaccination shots. Post this revelation many similar cases have come to light and several FIRs have been lodged. The matter is now being investigated by the Mumbai Police.
