Moreover, it has now come to light that the Kandivali Police is on the lookout for a doctor who could be the real brain behind the racket. The doctor, identified as Manish Tripathi, not only sourced and controlled vaccine supplies but also sent students from his paramedics' training institute to administer jabs at some of the bogus camps, said the police.

Tripathi had given the vaccine vials to Karim Ali, the fifth accused was arrested, who then supplied them to the camp.

According to officials, the main accused, Mahendra Singh, who accepted payments for all the camps, smashed his phone while in hiding at Panvel.

Vaccine camps were organized in the residential housing societies and the residents of the Hiranandani Society claimed that they were given fake vaccine doses along with fake vaccination certificates. The gang also duped people of INR 4 lakh.

The BMC is yet to hear from Covishield manufacturer Serum Institute of India on whether it had manufactured the vaccines that were administered at the bogus camps.

The gang is believed to have conducted bogus vaccination camps at Parel, Andheri, Versova, Kandivli, Borivli and two locations in Thane.
