Ransai Dam, which supplies water to Uran, has started overflowing due to heavy rains on Monday. The dam was filled to the brim at 4:00 am on Tuesday. Therefore, the water problem of Urankars has been solved. Last year Ransai got full on July 13. This year, the rain started late and it took only five days more than in 2022.

Ransai Dam supplies water to more than 25 gram panchayats and municipal councils, including an industrial plant in Uran. But the water supply required is falling short. Therefore, MIDC has to take the excess water from CIDCO's Hetawane Dam. Such is the case that in January itself water cut for two days a week has to be done. Water supply in Uran requires 40 million litres of water per day.

The storage capacity of the dam has decreased from 10 million cubic metres to 7 million cubic metres. Due to this, water has started falling short for water supply. During monsoon, water can be supplied regularly till November, but after that water cut has to be carried out.  Therefore, the citizens of Uran are demanding to increase the water storage capacity of the dam to get water on a regular basis.

Till now 984 millimetres of rain has been recorded in the dam area and since Ransai reached the level of 116 feet at 4:00 am on Tuesday, Uran MIDC engineer Vitthal Pachpund informed that the dam has started overflowing.
