The civic body of Navi Mumbai, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has informed that on Wednesday, June 23, water supply will reportedly be affected in the areas of Belapur, Nerul, Turbhe, Vashi, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli.
According to sources, due to the repair work that is to be conducted from the Morbe dam to the Digha area, the water supply is likely to be affected. During this period, the direct water connections to the waterways in the municipal area and the water supply from the NMMC at Kamothe and Kharghar nodes in the CIDCO area will also be cut off. Meanwhile, a low-pressure water supply will be provided on Thursday, June 24.
Furthermore, the civic body has requested the citizens to co-operate during this time by using water judiciously.
On the other hand, earlier on June 9, the monsoons lashed Mumbai ahead of its usual arrival date, causing severe waterlogging and suspension of trains services in the metropolis. Due to the incessant downpour, the city witnessed severe waterlogging in many areas. Moreover, local train services were also hit owing to heavy rain. Speaking to Mahesh Palawat, the Vice President of Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet Weather, Palawat stated, “Usually heavy rain is predicted in the latter part of June but this year we can see heavy rainfall with the onset of monsoons. Moreover, for the last four to five years we have witnessed heavy downpour. This year would not be an exception and as of now, rain activity seems to be better in most parts of Maharashtra so we can safely say that Mumbai will not face an inadequate supply of water,”
