If reports are to be believed, Mumbaikars will not be fully vaccinated before February, as five lakh people have taken their first dose in November. If the gap between the two shots of the COVID-19 vaccine is not reduced, not everyone will be fully inoculated until next year.

Even though Mumbai achieved its set target of 100% first dose vaccination on November 13, a few citizens are still coming in to take their first shot. Considering there is a gap of 84 days between two doses of Covishield, these people will have to wait till February to take their second shot.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) additional commissioner Suresh Kakani said they have written a letter addressing to the central government. In the letter, the civic body has urged the Centre to reduce the gap between two shots of vaccine. If they are permitted, the BMC will try to fully vaccinate citizens by mid-January.

It is not the first time where the Centre was requested to reduce the gap between two doses. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had also urged the Union Minister of Health to consider reducing the gap between the shots of vaccine.

Due to the growing fear of the Omicron variant, the administration wants everyone to be fully vaccinated. The Maharashtra government had also issued revised COVID-19 guidelines to prevent the possible spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has become the first district in Maharashtra to fully vaccinate 70% of the eligible population.
