On Thursday, November 25, vaccination drive in Maharashtra to fight COVID-19 reached two important milestones. The first being, Maharashtra hit 11 crore vaccinations which is the second-highest number in the country. Mumbai, on the other hand, became the first district in the state to fully vaccinate 70% of its eligible population.
According to the reports, Maharashtra has till now vaccinated 3.76 crores (41%) people. They have given at least one shot of the coronavirus vaccine to 79% of its eligible population. Of the 120 crore doses given in India, around 9% is from Maharashtra. Currently, UP is leading in administering the highest doses that account for nearly 13% of India's vaccination.
The state officials said that the 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign has helped increase the momentum of vaccination.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is likely to revise its date of vaccinating its eligible population with the first dose of vaccine as more than one crore of the population is yet to take the first dose. The state had earlier set a target of completing 100% vaccination for the first dose by November 30.

Even state health minister Rajesh Tope had urged the Centre to consider reducing the gap between two shots of the Covishield vaccine so more people will be fully vaccinated. In an effort to jab more people and create awareness about the vaccine, Tope had also said that the state would rope in celebrities like Salman Khan for the cause.
