Under the ‘United for Road Safety Program’ organized by the non-profit United Way of Mumbai (UWM), more than 23,000 youth have been trained for safe two-wheeler riding practices in the city.
According to reports, the NGO pointed out that the program was initiated after a government was released which stated that 37 per cent people were killed in road accidents involving two wheelers.
Moreover, the NGO volunteers conducted camps for young riders and equipped them to be safe and responsible riders besides creating awareness among youth and also children on use of helmets.
In a similar initiative, recently, Mumbai police also announced issued fresh guidelines for two-wheeler motorist where the offender will be sent to the nearest traffic chowky for a two-hour traffic awareness campaign and ensure that such an action is not repeated.
If reports are to be believed, the training was also conducted for over 13,000 youth in Pune, Silvassa, Nashik, Igatpuri in Maharashtra.
The sessions involved theoretical and practical guidance to potential two-wheeler riders to mitigate the issue.
NGO president stated that riders can be alert if they see danger ahead a few seconds before the mishap but the pillion, especially children and youth, are not alert and often we find pillion riders have maximum fatalities.
