According to the latest reports, motorists caught honking without any reason will have to spend nearly two hours at a traffic police chowky as well as undergo a training session on road traffic rules. This was announced by Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, during his Facebook live session on Sunday.

Based on accounts, Pandey elaborated on how previously they were only fined, however, going forward, it will not end with that. The police commissioner added post the completion of the session, they will have to go through a test on traffic rules. This decision has been taken because the police chief believes that only a fine was not helping those caught honking.

Therefore, those caught will have to clear the test which will help them understand the rules, remarked Pandey. Thus, if a motorist is caught honking without a reason, they will have to go through a training session on road traffic rules.

The Mumbai Police Commissioner elucidated that change cannot be expected overnight. He reportedly warned ambulance drivers about blaring sirens in the wee hours without being in traffic.

It has also been reported that since penalty and registration of cases for wrong side driving and night racing have not been able to reduce its incidence, the Mumbai traffic police have now commenced seizing vehicles.

On the other hand, recently, the Mumbai Police issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for two-wheeler motorists. These include the issuance of an e-challan, details of which will be sent to the RTO to suspend the driver's license for three months.

Following this, the offender will be sent to the nearest traffic chowky for a two-hour traffic awareness campaign to ensure that such an action is not repeated. Moreover, now FIRs will not be registered.
