Due to the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, unemployment happens to be a rampant issue that the state government has been dealing with for a while now.

According to sources, 8,259 unemployed people were provided with jobs in the state in April 2021 through various initiatives that were implemented by the Department of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, as informed by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik.

Moreover, employment is provided in the state through various activities like Mahasvayam Web Portal, Online Employment Fair etc. by linking job seekers and various companies, corporate organizations and industries. Through such various initiatives, last year in 2020, 1,99,486 candidates were provided employment in the state, while in the current year, from January to April, 52,169 unemployed have been provided employment.

Furthermore, Malik added that the Department of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship has launched a web portal https://rojgar.mahaswayam.gov.in in order to link unemployed candidates and entrepreneurs. The candidates have to register on the portal with information about their education, skills, experience etc. Also, companies, entrepreneurs, corporates who are looking for skilled candidates can also find the same by registering on this web portal. In addition, the department also organizes online employment fairs in the districts from time to time.

Meanwhile, in April 2021, 19,055 job-seeking candidates registered or re-registered with the department. Furthermore, 5,809 unemployed candidates registered in the Mumbai division, 2,757 in the Nashik division, 4,997 in the Pune division, 3,370 in the Aurangabad division, 1,144 in the Amravati division and 978 in the Nagpur division.
