Portion of three-storey building collapses in Nagpada, four people feared trapped

The fire brigade officials informed that an 11-year-old girl was rescued safely. However, a 72-year-old woman and two children are still feared to be trapped under the debris.

Four persons are feared to be trapped after a large portion of a building in Nagpada area of south Mumbai collapsed on Thursday afternoon. The incident happened around 1:00 in the afternoon, and the firefighters on the site have rescued an 11-year-old girl. 

There is a possibility of at least three people being trapped under the debris after a toilet block portion of the building in Nagpada collapsed today afternoon. The portion of a three-storey building, ground plus two-floor, on Shuklaji Marg, caved in around 1:00 PM and the fire engines along with ambulances rushed to the spot. 

As the incident happened, the Mumbai fire brigade along with vehicles and ambulances rushed to the spot in Nagpada and started their rescue operations. Five fire engines were at the spot and the rescue operation is still ongoing. 

The fire brigade officials informed that an 11-year-old girl was rescued safely. However, a 72-year-old woman and two children are still feared to be trapped under the debris. The building which houses 109 families has been evacuated to deter further mishap. 

The number of building collapse incidents in Mumbai have increased considerably. In July, there was building collapse in the Fort area amid heavy downpour. It was followed by a building collapse in Malad. 

Earlier, a portion of the five-storey 'Bhanushali' building near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus area collapsed. Six citizens lost their lives in the incident.
