Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is gearing up for the arrival of the much-awaited monsoon.

According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain are likely in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on June 25.

The IMD has also issued heavy rain warnings for the Konkan area, including Mumbai. Residents in low-lying regions have been cautioned to be prepared for potential flooding.

The monsoon holds great significance for Mumbai. It not only improves the water supply but also the air quality. This will provide much-needed relief from the warm and humid weather experienced recently.

In terms of air quality, different areas in Mumbai have varying Air Quality Index (AQI) levels. As of now, Colaba and Mazgaon have a satisfactory AQI, while Malad and Worli have a good AQI. Borivali's AQI stands at a satisfactory level.

Colaba: 63 AQI

Mazgaon: 53 AQI

Malad: 46 AQI

Borivali: 67 AQI

Worli: 34 AQI

The forecast indicates that the pre-monsoon light and moderate rains will be confined to the Konkan and Goa sub-divisions until June 22.

As a result of the prevailing pre-monsoon showers, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into the entire Konkan region and Goa sub-divisions, including Lower Konkan and Mumbai, on June 23.

Furthermore, the IMD forecasts above-average rainfall and more active monsoon activity over the entire Konkan and Goa sub-divisions, including Lower Konkan, from June 23 to 29.
