Senior police inspectors at many police stations in Mumbai have asked their subordinates to refrain from eating parcelled food from restaurants while donning the uniform in public, stated reports.

It is believed that the said order was issued post a senior officer from Mumbai Police saw a few constables eating outside Worli’s Atria Mall.

According to reports, a police official elaborated on how in November, a senior police officer who was heading home witnessed a few constables in uniforms eating parcelled food on the bonnet of a patrol vehicle outside the Atria Mall.

The senior police officer then voiced disapproval of this at his police station, the message was later passed on to the lower ranks.

This order comes in the aftermath of an incident that transpired four months ago. Herein an audio clip went viral on social media in which a Deputy Commissioner of Police from Pune could allegedly be heard telling subordinates to get free food from a nearby restaurant.

The order by the authority states that disciplinary action will be undertaken against those who partake in such activities. Whilst accounts claim that the order has resulted in unrest amongst the lower ranks, officers have put their point across.

Based on accounts, an officer stated that such activities affect their image since people who see officers open food parcels in the public from restaurants believe the personnel didn’t pay for it. Thus, they believe stopping this activity is necessary.
