In order to ensure that no child in the country is deprived of the polio vaccination, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has started administering the vaccination for polio.

According to sources, CSMIA has been conducting this special drive in collaboration with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Moreover, 152 children have been vaccinated against polio in this drive. Out of the 152 kids, 80 children were under the age of five. In addition, officials have stated that the number of counters has also been increased in the airport keeping in view social distancing measures in the midst of the pandemic.

Since 2010, vaccinations for polio have been organized at Mumbai airport. So far, at least 9,300 children have been provided with free vaccinations.

Meanwhile, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, lockdowns were imposed in several parts of the country. As a result, domestic flights were impacted severely last year as the pandemic began to take shape across the world. However, they were allowed to operate in a limited capacity some weeks later. Airlines are now undertaking vaccination programmes for COVIDF-19 for their employees, including frontline staff such as pilots and cabin crew.

On the other hand, the CSMIA had earlier issued new guidelines for domestic passengers arriving from select states. The guidelines stated that all passengers arriving at CSMIA from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal should carry a negative RT-PCR test report.
