Petrol prices continue to sky-rocket in the city, reaches Rs 107.54. Similarly, diesel prices rise to Rs 97.45.

In the city’s neighbouring areas of Thane and Navi Mumbai, the prices of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 107.66 and Rs 97.57 respectively. On May 29, prices of petrol breached the Rs 100 mark for the first time in Mumbai. The current Rs 107.54 retail price of petrol in Mumbai is a 34 paise surge from the last price point.

In other regions in the state such as that of Amravati, the diesel price is one rupee shy of the Rs 100 threshold, whilst the cost of petrol is inching to break the Rs 110 mark in Parbhani. Herein its retail price was Rs 109.84 per litre.

The common man is burdened under the pressure of escalating prices of not just fuel, but other necessities, amidst the pandemic.

The price of fuel is dependant on a range of international and national nuances. On a global scale, the fuel prices are determinant on prices of crude oil in the international market and the exchange rate of dollar to rupee, amongst some of the many factors. Similarly, from the country perspective the taxation at the state as well as central level, play a crucial role.
