Mumbai City Women Safety Initiative High Powered Committee meeting was held on October 30, in the conference room of Additional Chief Secretary (Home). Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sujata Saunik, Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and others were present in the meeting. The project report for Mumbai city with a total cost of INR 252 crore has been approved in the meeting.


In order to take steps regarding women's safety in the country, various measures are implemented by the Central Government under the Nirbhaya Fund. Under this Nirbhaya Fund, 'Nirbhaya-Safe City' scheme is being implemented in 8 cities of the country. Brihanmumbai city of the state is included in this centrally sponsored scheme.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed to implement this scheme more quickly and effectively. In the meeting, it was decided to issue a work order regarding women safety in Mumbai city as per the tender process conducted at the level of Police Commissioner, Mumbai. With this approval, cyber material will be available to Mumbai Police for investigation of crimes. This will reduce response time in relation to crimes against women. Additionally, Mumbai Police will also get mobile data terminals and equipment for filming crime scenes.


In the meeting, the creation of a digital board for public information was also approved. Apart from this, it was also decided in the meeting to provide a training system to the police and smartphones to the traffic police. Modern equipment as well as training of police will increase the capacity of police administration and will help in increasing the conviction rate.
